On 28 June, 2012 in Vilnius there was held EWTCA (East-West Transport Corridor Association) Council meeting that gathered almost 40 participants (EWTCA Council members and new candidates). The activities of the organization since October 2011 till May 2012 were reviewed; priorities for the new challenges, future prospects, as well as important questions regarding the EWTCA activity plan 2013-2015 were discussed in the meeting. The meeting was also attended by five new candidates, including MC Siauliu oro uostas. The company presented its activities, goals and future plans, as well as some arguments as to why air transport should be included in the East-West Transport Corridor project. After the presentation on Siauliai International Airport, EWTCA members agreed unanimously to accept MC Siauliu oro uostas into the Association.
The East-West Transport Corridor Association (EWTCA) is an organization established in Vilnius in 2010 on a voluntary business interests basis with a view to increasing effectiveness of the East – West Transport Corridor linking the Southern Baltic Sea Region of the European Union (Denmark, Germany, Lithuania, Sweden), the Kaliningrad Region of the Russian Federation and other countries (Belarus, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, China, and countries in the Black Sea Region and Asia).
The association unites members from twelve countries: Belarus, Belgium, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Mongolia, Russian Federation, Sweden and Ukraine. The goal of the International East West Transport Association is to develop the cooperation between transport and logistics companies, intermodal transport operators, consignors and consignees, authorities and academic institutions in relation to the establishment of multifaceted east west Transport corridor, which would have the capacity of handling global Asian – European trade flows. The President of the association is Dr. Algirdas Šakalys, Adviser to the Prime Minister of Lithuania, one of the heads of the Lithuanian Intermodal Transport Technology Platform.
